Rich media on the intranet

These days people transfer information in all kinds of. Not so long ago, for example, if you wanted to share a stale bread soup recipe with Mildred, you had to write it out and mail it to her. Today, you can send her an email with a link to Rachel Ray preparing it and a link to the recipe.

Intranet1 teams can use rich media (videos, podcasts, mobile) to share information in the same way. For example, you need teach your team how to use new software. Until recently, that would involve writing a tedious manual and conducting live class sessions. Today, anyone can create a screencast where the teacher explains each click and demonstrates the results. In addition team members can watch the training session at their convenience.

Alex Manchester has written a great article, Using Audio and Video on the Intranet. It's a great survey of rich media opportunities for enriching the intranet experience.
